BRECHT

George BRECHT

(born in 1925; lives in London) is the founder of Brecht & MacDiarmid. Research Associates. He has been exploring the possibilities of floating land masses across the surface of the earth to the new locations. Initially he proposed that England be floated to a lacation near the Canary Islands or as an alternate, and somewhat easier, undertaking that the Isle of Wight be cut from its moorings and floated south. Fearing that Chicagoans might feel remote from the problem of translocating England, he then proposed the possible wedding of Havana, Cuba and Miami, Florida. Suggestions as to the technical and ecological aspects of his proposal may be phoned in by museum visitors to Brecht’s Chicago answering service, MI 2-6322. Viewer responses will be displayed as they come in and may in turn trigger additional suggestions, allowing the work to grow as a dialogue between the artist and his commentators.
