Jack BURNHAM

(born 1931; lives in Evanston, Ill.) author of Beyond Modern Sculpture and an artist working with light systems, has instructed the museum to hang 30 three-foot strips of green tape lights in a dark room. A Mercury vapor lamp covered with a violet gelatin will be at one end of the room. Timed to go on and off in 30-seconds cycles, the incandescent light will wash out the weaker tape light illumination. Jack burnham has given it the title « Ultraviolence. »

(né en 1931, vit à Evanston, Ill.) auteur de Beyond Modern Sculpture et artiste travaillant avec des systèmes lumineux, il a demandé au musée de pendre 30 bandes de 90cm de scotch vert dans une salle sombre. Une ampoule à mercure, recouverte de gélatine violette sera placée à un des bouts de la pièce. Réglé sur un cycle de 30 secondes, l’ampoule s’éteint et s’allume automatiquement. La lumière incandescente effacera la faible lumière produite par les bandes lumineuses. Jack Burnham a donné à cette œuvre le titre : « ultraviolence ».
